“Having separate classes dedicated to writing, vocabulary, grammar, and literature shaped my skills as a journalist.””

Sage Hill high school
VDA Class of 2015
I graduated from VanDamme Academy in 2015 after attending for seven years. I now attend high school at Sage Hill. At Sage, I played Varsity Baseball as a freshman and as a sophomore, winning a CIF championship my freshman year. This past year, I joined the school newspaper, and now, I am an associate editor. I wrote a number of articles, but my best article was “The Italian Incident,” about the little known Italian Referendum last November, which had a great impact on global interactions. The American Newspaper Publishers Association named my article “Outstanding Article” in the non-school-related category.
At VanDamme Academy, I received extensive training in writing and in the English language. Having separate classes dedicated to writing, vocabulary, grammar, and literature shaped my skills as a journalist. VanDamme Academy also really helped me develop as a baseball player because the “no-homework policy” allowed me free time after school, which meant that I could play baseball every day. VanDamme Academy’s great training provided me with an experience that every student should have.
